No Child Should Learn Hungry

H.E.R is helping vulnerable children access nutritious food and essential support so hunger does not determine their ability to learn, grow and dream.

No Child Should Learn Hungry

A hungry child cannot simply switch hunger off when the school bell rings.

Child malnutrition remains a serious challenge in South Africa. In the 2026 State of the Nation Address, government said more than a quarter of children under five are stunted and announced a national effort to tackle child malnutrition and stunting.

South Africa has substantial public nutrition programmes, including R11 billion allocated to the National School Nutrition Programme for 2026/27. Yet vulnerable families and young children continue to require additional community support.

H.E.R wants to work at that community level through nutritional assistance, food parcels, school-support initiatives and partnerships that reach vulnerable children and their caregivers.

Food is more than something placed on a plate. For a developing child, nutrition affects health, concentration, development and opportunity.

A full stomach gives a child the freedom to concentrate on being a child.
